ALBERT ROAD METHODIST CHURCH & COMMUNITY CENTREARINTWP

1907 – 2008…

is now a modern, comfortable and easy to maintain suite of premises, suited to the twenty-first century, using the rear of our original 100 year old building.  We have three floors of rooms with a lift serving all floors. OUR DOORS RE-OPENED on Sunday 13th January 2008.

The church was full to overflowing for the opening and rededication…children sat on the floor at the front and adults stood in the

beautiful glazed foyer inside

the entrance porch.

SEE BELOW for information on our OPENING CELEBRATION SERVICE & GIFT DAY which will be on Saturday 31st May 2008.

Our premises now provide the CHURCH HALL on the ground floor and a LOWER HALL; in addition there is a large room  on the ground floor (Room 1) and a large room on the upper floor (Room 3)  there are also  and a number of other smaller rooms suited to a variety of activities on each floor.

A small PRAYER CHAPEL is available for personal devotions and this is situated on the ground floor, just inside the entrance doors. The main kitchen is on the ground floor and is fully equipped with dishwasher and fridge freezer’ cooker and microwave: on each of the other floors there is a kitchenette available to groups using the premises.

There are also toilets on each level and full disabled facilities are also provided on the ground floor and upper floor. Disabled flat access is provided for those who need it, otherwise access is via a shallow slope and four  steps with a  shallow height and good depth which lead to an entrance hall and a lovely foyer with comfortable chairs and coffee tables for you to relax and chat in.

The premises are light and airy, newly decorated and pleasantly laid out. An audio loop system for the hard of hearing is also provided in the church hall.

We hope these premises will enable the church to maintain its life, worship and witness, and to continue and grow our 30 years of working in partnership with the community as a community centre,    offering space for groups to meet, work and play.

This is a busy building serving both its local and wider communities of Penarth and district.  The  Community Centre is supported by a paid Administrator and the church owns a Mini Bus.

In 2007 we celebrated the CENTENARY of the church and we look forward to the next century in our newly refurbished premises.  There are still some items we need to find funding for and of course the day to day running costs still need to be met...although re-furbished we are still an old building meeting the challenges that all old buildings provide.

SO MUCH for the building…what about the people?

We have a dedicated membership of friendly and welcoming members.  Our church membership stands at 85 although there are others beyond this who regularly share with us.  Our October count revealed an average congregation of around 38 adults and 5 children….but as our reopening service showed, we have a much wider reach…we topped 150 then.

Anyone joining us for the first time will immediately be struck by the warmth of welcome they recieve and anyone in need is always helped.

Our regular activities include:

Monday            2.30pm                                 Women’s Fellowship

Tuesday           6.00pm (in term time)           Brownies

                         6.30pm (in term time)           Guides

In our newly refurbished building

we hope to fulfil these aims

which seek to meet
